Crazy to know this fact, I visit the Lexington almost every year when I head to the beach
TFE put in the work, Buffalo got a 3 ring binder stacked with cases. Don't cross this homie, his tism goes deeper than Gandalf fighting the balrog.
Pretty sure a bomber has never damaged a ww2 air craft Carrier
Are you in the IBEW
His father was the accountant who took down Al Capone with his testimony, and the heroic part is that he was returning from a mission because of an issue that left him with low fuel and he fought knowing that if he will fight he wouldn't have enough fuel to land and he drownwd at sea

My daughter got me a "war crime" hoodie for my birthday today! Proud to support the channel!
Thank you in my opinion for that information glad it was named after a war hero but I've had to fly in and out of O'Hare and it sucks no disrespect to the man that earns in Medal of Honor I salute him❤❤❤❤
I grew up in northern Illinois right next to O’Hare airport and I was waiting for someone to do a video on it
I have flown in and out of O'Hare airport. many times but I have never known who it was named for until now. Thank you.
Holy crap I've been on the Lex and only heard this now... huge respect! From this comrade to another 🫡
That's awesome.
That one guy in War Thunder match who seems to get all the kills while me scratching my head
I look forward to every one of your Videos. Please do your assessment of John Thomas Blackburn. He formed up and was C.O. of VF-17, 'The Jolly Roger's', the most kick ass Navy F4U Corsair squadron in WWII, the plane the Japanese shit their pants when they saw they were in a fight with one. After a few missions the Japs refused to fight VF-17 unless there were bombers present so to get the Japs up to fight they got bombers to go with The Jolly Roger's on their mission in the Soloman Islands and the Fortress at Rabaul. I have extensive knowledge of VF-17 and Blackburn 's accomplishments. VF-17 fought the best of the best the Japs had at Rabaul Soloman Islands. This was the meat of the time of the war in the Pacific. They were not fighting Turkeys of diminished Jao pilots later in the war. VF-17 were up against the Jap pilots displaced when their carriers were sunk as they flew. The squadron is still regarded and continues today as VF-103 Strike Fighter Squadron 103 (VFA-103): Location: Based at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA . I could go on for days but rest assured Commander Blackburn was incredible. Another one of my heros Vice Admiral James Stockdale, USN . To Quote him , "If ever a man was tailor-made to be an across the board role model and leader of men flying and fighting from Ships at see, It was Tommy Blckburn. Please read Commander Blackburn's book, "The Jolly Rogers" My favorite passage in the book is when VF-17 being stationed in the hot island they flew from they would take out the ammo out of the wings and filled with beer cans and fly at altitute to cool down the beer and land so everyone had ice cold beer. And Blackburn knowing that a specific hut on the island was a whore house the Jap officers frequented he told his armorers to rig up a brace so they could carry two 500 lb. bombs and they hit the whole house with great delight. My Dad was on ships where the squadron VF-17 was flying cover and it is entirely possible that I would not be here today. Location: Based at Naval Air Station aboard the U.S.S.
I'd rather have it named after Dick Bong.
So that’s how O’Hare got its name. A lot of mobsters and their kids have military service.
There was a cartoon in 80s or 90s with a rabbit who was a pilot named captain Bucky o'hare i wonder if its a homage to this guy
He was a war hero and he deserved every honor bestowed upon him. He saved an Aircraft Carrier from a Zero attack. Lives and gear saved by him alone are uncountable. Thank you for doing these videos. Our military men deserve the exposure. RIP Hero 🙏🏼💙🧡😪🇺🇸🦅

My grandfather served on the Lexington before it passed through the Panama Canal and went into the Pacific.
Damn, never knew this. Curious where the japanese escorts were though.
You may be badass; but you’re not “the N A V Y made a new drinking song after me” badass.
A Fighter plane that’s restored to show the plane he flew is hanging in O’Hare Airport in Chicago, and the exhibit has the story of his life. It even talks about how his father pulled strings for him, but not how strings were pulled for politicians sons in Vietnam and such to keep them from having to go fight. Because his son wanted to fight and his dad didn’t want his son to be like him. So the strings that were pulled was to get him into fighter pilot training. But his son had to earn his wings on his own merit, and wasn’t just given to him. In today’s day in age most branches of the military and civilians make fun of the Chair Force oops meant Air Force. As being soft, but during WW2 the US Air Corps really did go through the meat grinder. An they took a lot of casualties back then.

This is some mobile suit gundam shit.
I live in Pensacola, I remember seeing the Lexington next to the 3 mile bridge heading to the beach and taking tours on it, had a wooden deck
So in 4 minutes dude became an Ace with plenty of witnesses.
You are the first person we've watched that makes history enjoyable to watch and to highlight many unknown "heros". We look forward to your videos and have shared many. "Quack, Bang"
not that often we get to hear a good story about someone from Chicago wholesome af
You are the guy who should start a real history channel. Not some stupid ass Ice road trucker road to "who gives a shit city"!!!
Sure, the airport was named after him, but the better namesake was Bucky.

If this chubby electron fella was the history teacher in school, kids would be much wiser and respectful
Hearing this makes me mad that chicago let the O'Hare airport become so run down. You telling his story should be a great way to get the government to clean it up some.
Give us a deep dive on The Tuskegee Airmen. If you have before and I missed it I’m sorry. But if so send me the link. :)
I worked with his grandson years ago. Used to dial into conference calls while riding in a Blackhawk from somewhere in the ME.

Love you videos
He’s a damn good pilot but only 1 Dick Bong.
It's a shame that such a man has his name associated with an armpit like O'hare International Airport, not that Midway is much better.
"Could do nothing but watch" uh, CVs have AAA...
It's a shame the O'hare airport is run by commies
Been to that carrier it’s absolutely amazing
Bad to the bone.. ❤
I have a new respect for Chicago airport now
Now O’Hare is selling air
It's terrible that they turned it into such a hell hole
I love the meaning of "quack bang"
OORAH! BLESS THAT IRISH BOY!
Keep telling those stories MR ELECTRICIAN. The way you present them are electrical. You should be teaching this in school, starting with middle school.
25
You should do a video on unsinkable sam, I don't know why but animals during war are just on another level
That is a feat...a good feat.
Now I want to hear the whole song!
Did you see the liquid death fighter plane raffle???
Day 5 of asking Fat Electrician to cover Project Azorian
Bullshit paul bunyun story
If I remember correctly, his dad was the mobster that helped the government pin Al Capone once and for all. Pretty interesting story if it’s real.
Was Butch O"hare assign to the The Gray Ghost Enterprise during this attack?
Just shared this with my dad. He was stationed on the Lex in the 70s

Electricians dont steal enough money you gotta sell t shirts too lol
Pretty sure i went to ait with you delta 01-13 If so nice seeing you living your best life
The lorax has been real quiet since this came out.
Bro carries his nutts in mining trucks
Please do a video on John Stapp. The guy who kept ignoring the military and strapping himself to a rocket sled to test seat belts and spent time lobbying the government to get seatbelts in cars. He is arguably credited with saving hundreds of thousands of lives

I'm hoping you see this because the more I look at school bus the more I think back to the mail truck it has to be military equipment or sponsored or something pls I need answers

If you think about it a shotgun is what draws the line between Face paint And Face, paint Just don’t let marines know about it
There was an 80s comic about a space fighter pilot rabbit named Bucky O'Hare. I wonder if there was a corelation.

As an ode to Butch, Midway airport was named after the place that he was eventually shot down.

Battle of Athens Tennessee 1946!
Just looking at the syllable count of that drinking song, and given the era, I doubt they used the full word for"Japanese".
10
Id rather have a bad airport named after me then be the patron saint of bad drinking water.

Awesome video that was dude
