One of my favorite parts of the Crazy Crab saga was they considered shoving the mascot suit out of a helicopter, and serving crab bowls to the stadium. They nixed the idea after thinking kids watching a mascot jumping to its death would be traumatizing. Getting rid of your mascot ala good bye cruel world style would have been legendarily meta.

So, sometimes a tall guy without a head and guts coming out from his neck would appear for events, and I think if you had honor roll or something you got to take a picture with him. The sports mascot thing sort of looped back around in 2018 when the Philadelphia Flyers introduced Gritty. He was designed to be hideous and kind of a douchebag, but he soon became one of the most loved mascots of all time. But then again, people in Philly are just built different. (I'm a Phillies fan.)

We used to love seeing him on the ads, and to this day we still shriek “chippieeeeeessss!!” The same way he did lol I’ve never seen that particular Toohey’s ad (disgusting), but there was another one where the guy was sleeping and his tongue climbed out of his mouth, went out to a party, got a beer, and dragged it back home and into the guy’s mouth 🫤🤷🏼‍♂️
